Gordon Fyfe grew up in South London. He received his degrees from the University of Leicester and went on to teach and research at Keele University from 1971 to 2003. He is Honorary Fellow at the School of Museum Studies, University of Leicester, UK. His research interests have been primarily focused on the historical sociology of modern art institutions and museums. Other interests include Victorian Studies, visual sociology and the history of British sociology. He has been a Managing Editor of The Sociological Review (Britain’s oldest established journal of sociology) and served on its Board from 1975 till 2014. He is a founding editor of Leicester University’s on-line and open access museums research journal Museum and Society, and he is a member of the Board of Museum History Journal. He has also served as Chairman of Leamington Studio Artists.
